What Makes This Recipe Great

I grew up eating froyo andall kinds of colorful, fruit-flavored yogurt,so I was really excited to partner withSilkagain and try their new oat alternative! Yogurt was the hardest to find alternatives for when I first went vegan because there weren’t too many options available at the time. Silk’s oat yogurt is not only incredibly similar in taste and texture to my favorite childhood strawberry yogurt but also has no coconut flavor to it, which I really appreciate. Often, dairy-free alternative products are made with coconut. It’s delicious but can have a strong coconut flavor that can oftenoverwhelmother flavors.

If you’re a yogurt fiend like I was and looking for something that will really satisfy that craving, give this oat-based vegan yogurt alternative a shot. It’s not only a great dupe but also containsactive cultures, just as a dairy-based yogurt would! If you’re trying to transition dairy out of your diet, which is often the most difficult for people to substitute, I recommend trying oat-based products for the mostneutral flavorand creamy texture. Finding a really good substitute for one of your frequently eaten products is the first step to progress.

So, as the name would suggest, we’re making this 2-ingredient vegan frozen yogurt with only 2 ingredients–oat milk yogurt and more strawberries! While we’re using it to make a frozen treat for the warmer temps, it goes without saying that it’s absolutely delicious on its own or topped with your favorite granola, fruit, and nuts.

Ingredient Notes

dairy-free yogurt alternative:I used 2x Silk’s Oat Yeah Dairy-Free Yogurt Alternative in Strawberry. You can use any non-dairy yogurt– made with coconut milk, almond milk, cashew milk, etc, and any yogurt flavors– vanilla, mixed berry, and more.

frozen strawberries:Using frozen berries helps us achieve the chilled, icy, frozen ice cream texture we’re looking for.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Spoon yogurt intoan ice cube moldand freeze overnight or until solid.
  2. In a high-speedblenderor food processor, pulse frozen yogurt cubes and frozen strawberries until everything breaks down. Use atamperto help break down the ingredients, and scrape down the sides of the blender with a spatula as needed. If needed, you may add dairy-free milk by the tablespoon to help it along.
  3. Once smooth, transfer the yogurt mixture into a bowl orconeand enjoy!

Secrets to Success

  • In this vegan froyo recipe, I usedsilicone ice cube trays, which made it easier to pop out the yogurt after freezing. You can use any shape you’d like, but I recommend either a good, non-stick ice cube tray or one that makes it easy to remove. You can also try a silicone mini muffin pan if that’s all you have on hand.
  • You’ll need to prep the ingredients in the freezer for at least 4-5 hours, but I recommend doing so the day before making for the best results. The froyo is best enjoyed right after making it.
  • For the strawberries, you can either use fresh fruit or frozen, but I find that frozen takes a little work out of the process and isusuallymore affordable than fresh. Also availableyear-round!
  • If you want your frozen yogurt recipe to be a bit more sweetness, you can add a bit of liquid sweetener like maple syrup or agave nectar to the blender.
  • You can also add additionalfrozen fruitto the mix if you’d like– frozen bananas, blueberries, pineapple, mango, and more!
  • As with any froyo, top with your favorite toppings: chocolate chips, peanut butter, almond butter, granola, nuts, and more.

Storage Tips

This is best served immediately. However, you can store leftover vegan froyo in a freezer-safe container/ airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 days. The sooner, the better to avoid freezer burn or texture issues.

  • about 10 ounces dairy-free yogurt alternative I used 2x Silk's Oat Yeah Dairy-Free Yogurt Alternative in Strawberry
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries

Instructions

  • Spoon yogurt into an ice cube mold and freeze overnight or until solid

  • In a high-speed blender or food processor, pulse frozen yogurt cubes and frozen strawberries until everything breaks down. Use a tamper to help break down the ingredients, and scrape down the sides of the blender with a spatula as needed. If needed, you may add dairy-free milk by the tablespoon to help it along.
