How to answer the question why do you want this apprenticeship? ›

Whatever your reason, make sure you demonstrate that you've done your research and avoid giving vague answers that could make you seem disinterested. I want to use this apprenticeship as an opportunity to gain practical work experience that will build on my academic training.

Show you have researched the company and the content of the apprenticeship they are offering. Say something that acknowledges the vision and values of the company, as well as their success. You could say here something you are doing / have done that is relevant to something the company does.

Apprenticeship interviews can be difficult to prepare for, for both the interviewer and interviewee. When interviewing junior talent, you're not expecting years of experience or multiple projects for the candidate to draw examples from.

For example, Public speaking: “I am really keen on improving my public speaking skills. I believe it's a really important skill to have, especially when it comes to giving presentations and sharing ideas in meetings. I really like that this apprenticeship encourages collaboration which will help me open up.”

Look at the job description and match it with some of your strengths – try to link them together. Have you done any work experience, volunteering or part time jobs? You can write about any experiences you have had that are related to the apprenticeship, or any skills you've learnt that might help you.

Apprenticeships as exclusive job training may be difficult to find, many of which are administered through trade unions. They are in high demand in some areas.

Formal apprenticeship programs usually last about 4 years, depending on the employer or occupation, although they may take as little as 12 months or as many as 6 years. Many of these programs are registered with the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL).
