Dubai Work Visa Validity

  • If you will be working in the UAE for less than 30 days, your employer can apply on your behalf for a short term visa. There's also a 60 day Dubai visa (multiple-entry) for those coming for only a few months. In this case, you will have to provide documentation and proof of the business registration before your application can be considered.
  • The general Dubai work visa validity depends upon your employer and your nature of employment. Depending upon these factors, it can be issued for 1, 2 or 3 years.
  • If you’re a student you might be able to work in a relevant position such as an internship, under the terms of your student visa and without needing a new permit.

Documents Required for Work Visa Dubai

The exact documents which you will need to provide vary depending upon the job you applied for. Your employer will first have to make the Dubai visa application on your behalf and will need to prove that the business is properly registered, and that the job you are being employed to do, could not otherwise be filled locally.
Depending on your nationality, the Dubai employment visa application rules may be different.

You can expect to be asked for the following paperwork to support your employer’s application:

  • Valid original passport (minimum 6 months validity)
  • Duly filled application form
  • Applicant’s passport size photograph
  • Application fee – to be paid by the employer
  • Entry Permit issued by the Ministry of Labour
  • Valid health certificate – issued by a government authorised hospital or health centre in UAE
  • Three copies of your employment contract – one for the employer, one for the employee and one for the Ministry of Labour
  • Education Certificates – authorised by the UAE embassy or consulate present in your country and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of your country.
  • Professional qualification certificates – proof of previous employment such as pay slips, experience letter, recommendation letter, etc.
  • Sponsoring company’s valid trade license.

Procedure to obtain Dubai Work Visa for Indians:

  • After you have secured yourself a job in Dubai, your employer will pay and apply for your Dubai employment visa at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) for you which will allow you to stay in Dubai for 30 days (with additional 30 days of grace period).
  • If you have found yourself a job on your Dubai tourist visa then you might need to perform a “Visa Run”, wherein you travel to any neighbouring country like Oman and re-enter Dubai with a your Dubai work visa.
  • As soon as you re-enter Dubai, your employer will visit the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) and initiate the application process of Dubai Residence Visa and Dubai work permit or Labour Card, an ID card issued by the Ministry of Labour that you must carry with you at all times, incase labour officials spot check you randomly.
  • You must visit an Emirates ID service centre with your valid passport and work visa for Dubai to obtain an Emirates ID for yourself, which will be valid for the same duration of your Dubai work visa.
  • You will be required to undergo a medical examination at any government authorised hospital or health centre for certain job roles as mandated by the authorities for your Dubai residence visa.
  • After submitting all the relevant documents at the Department of Naturalisation and Residency Dubai (DNRD) and depending upon your job profile and employment contract your Dubai Residence Visa will be issued with a validity of 1-3 years.
  • After getting the Dubai residence visa and Dubai work permit you can easily begin working in Dubai.

Note:

  • The UAE High Commission also issues Dubai Remote Work Visa that allows visa holders to live in the UAE and work for their current employer who is not based in the UAE. Meaning you can continue working at your current job and move to live in UAE.
  • Dubai Residence Visa holders are also eligible to sponsor their parents, spouses, children and even house help under certain conditions.
  • When you apply for a Dubai residence visa on behalf of any of your family members you will be required to share proof of relationship such as birth and marriage certificates along with other relevant documents.
