Overview

The proposed project includes reconstructing the I-35 and Williams Drive interchange, adding operational improvements from North Austin Avenue to Rivery Boulevard, and extending the northbound frontage road from Williams Drive to the Lakeway Drive exit ramp.

Project Description

  • Reconstruct the Williams Drive interchange to a diverging diamond interchange (DDI)
  • Construct north and southbound intersection bypass lanes under Williams Drive bridge
  • Extend the northbound I-35 frontage road from Williams Drive to the Lakeway Drive exit ramp
  • Improve the existing southbound I-35 frontage road
  • Improve the Austin Avenue intersection at Williams Drive
  • Improve bicycle and pedestrian paths along the I-35 frontage roads

Funding

  • Project development funded by TxDOT
  • Construction funded by Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization and TxDOT
  • Construction cost: $61.7 million

Schedule

  • Finalized schematic and environmental documentation: early 2019
  • Begin Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E): mid-2017
  • Complete PS&E: May 2020
  • Construction letting: July 2020
  • Construction start: October 2020
  • •Anticipated construction completion: late 2023
