SENSORY TABLE FOR TODDLERS
You would assume that for someone who loves sensory play as much as I do, I would have an actual sensory table, right? Well… not really. Okay so, let me explain myself. Because I love sensory activities as much as I do, I am a bit specific about what a look for in a sensory table, and I never found one that I could just buy that ticked all the boxes. Until I saw this one!
It’s for both indoors and outdoors, CHECK!, It is lightweight, CHECK!, easy to assemble and disassemble, CHECK! it has removable bins, CHECK!, height is adjustable to kid’s growth, CHECK!, it is inexpensive CHECK! and it only took me less than 30 minutes to put together from start to finish!! Truly might be my proudest DIY moment to date, and I owe all this excitement to my friend Katie! Katie did all the hard work of measuring out, sourcing the pieces, and putting it all together in the most perfect way. I just followed her instructions to the best homemade sensory table for the little ones.
MATERIALS:
2x 10ft 3/4” PVC pipe
4x 3/4” socket cap
4x 3/4” side outlet 90-degree socket
4x 3/4” PVC tee
1x 3/4” cross for the centerpiece
Outdoor spray paint
Pvc pipe cutter
4 Dollar Tree bins 8qt. (11Lx13.5Wx4.5H)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Using the two 10ft pipes, make these cuts: 6x 12.5” pipes, 6x 9.75” pipes & 4x 18” pipes.
Assemble the table and squeeze tightly to make sure it’s secure.
Cover your work area and spray paint the table (optional).
Once it is dry, add the bins into the slots. It’s ready to use
My favorite part is how versatile and useful this sensory activity table actually is. I like to mix and match textures and skill-learning activities so that if my girls do get tired of one activity, they can just move on to the next one into a completely new experience. This allows for longer playtime!
Tip: For older toddlers, try building the sensory table DIY with them. It’s great for building communication, teamwork, and motor skills at an early age + I love some one-on-one bonding time!
