To maintain your registration you need to pay your annual fee. You also need to renew your registration every three years through revalidation.
Key dates
Log into your NMC Online account to see your:
- fee expiry date -the deadline for paying your annual fee
- revalidation application date -the deadline for submitting your revalidation application (it's the first day of the month in which your registration expires)
We’ll email you 60 days before your fee expiry date or revalidation application date (depending on which applies that year) as a reminder.
You should keep your contact details up to date in your NMC Online account to receive this reminder.

Paying your annual fee
You can pay your annual fee using your NMC Online account.
It’s important that you do this by your fee expiry date, otherwise your registration will automatically lapse.

Revalidation
To help you continually develop and reflect on your practice, we ask you to revalidate every three years.
You can submit your revalidation application usingyourNMC Onlineaccount.
It’s important that you do this by your revalidation application date, otherwise your registration will automatically lapse.
Once you have submitted your revalidation application and paid your fee, we'll email you to let you know that your registration has been updated. You can also check this in your NMC Online account.

If your registration lapses
Your name will be automatically removed from our register if your registration has lapsed. You’ll then need to apply for readmission to be able to practise again.
The readmission process can take up to six weeks, depending on your circ*mstances.
You’re not allowed to practise as a nurse, midwife or nursing associate while you’re unregistered.
