Visa sponsorship jobs: 5 Canadian companies to look out for (2024)

If you are an international student looking to work in Canada, visa sponsorship jobs are an ideal option to kickstart your career. After all, theGovernment of Canadareported that immigration accounts for almost 100% of Canada’s labour force growth in 2021.

One way for international graduates to join the Canadian job market is through theLabour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). The LMIA is a document that an employer in Canada may need to get before hiring a foreign worker.

CanadianVisa.org notes thatCanadian companies don’t necessarily “sponsor” foreign workers, but they do assist in applying for an LMIA on your behalf to Employment and Social Development (ESDC) Canada.

The portal– which works with Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants (RCICs) –listed five Canadian companiesthat facilitate LMIA procedures.

We draw on their advice, as well as some of our own, to guide you on one method to extend your stay in Canada:

Labour shortages in Canada

It’s worth noting that the list above is not exhaustive; many industries in Canada are currently experiencing labour shortages, so make some inquiries into companies who may be willing toassist you in applying for an LMIA on your behalf.

For instance, the Quebec Immigration Ministry updates its list of occupations that are eligible for facilitated LMIA processing each year. Canadian Immigration notes, “Since labour shortages in these occupations are proven, Quebec employers do not need to demonstrate that they could not find a worker in Canada to fill the role.”

A report by Statistics Canada published on May 26, 2022 shows that up until the beginning of March 2022, Canadian employers are scrambling to fill over a million vacant positions across the country.

Some of the industries gravely affected by the skill shortage include accommodation and food services (158,100 vacancies), healthcare and social assistance (154,t00 vacancies) and retail trade (109,200 vacancies).

If you are considering a path to permanent residency in Canada, you should also ensure that you secure full-time work experience in “skilled” jobs.
