Spice Rub Ingredients

To give your turkey roast a delicious flavor, you'll need to create a spice rub. Prep Time

The prep time for a slow cooker turkey roast is minimal. It should only take you about 10 to 15 minutes to prepare the turkey for the slow cooker. Here are the steps you need to follow:

  1. Remove the turkey from the packaging and discard any netting or ties.
  2. Pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
  3. Rub the turkey with your preferred seasoning or rub. Make sure to cover the entire turkey.
  4. Place the turkey in the slow cooker with the breast facing up.
  5. Cover the slow cooker with a lid or foil.

The cook time for a slow cooker turkey roast depends on the size of the turkey. Here is a general guideline for cook times:

  • For a 3 to 4-pound turkey roast, cook on high for 2.5 to 3 hours or on low for 5 to 6 hours.
  • For a 5 to 6-pound turkey roast, cook on high for 3.5 to 4 hours or on low for 7 to 8 hours.

Rest Time

After the turkey is done cooking, let it rest for 10 to 15 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the turkey, making it juicier and more flavorful.

Using the Slow Cooker

Setting the Temperature

Most slow cookers have two temperature settings, low and high. When cooking a turkey roast, it is best to use the low setting. This will ensure that the meat cooks evenly and stays moist. Using the high setting can cause the meat to dry out and become tough.

Cooking Duration

The cooking duration for a turkey roast in a slow cooker will depend on the size of the roast and the internal temperature that you want to achieve. As a general rule, you should cook a turkey roast for 6-8 hours on the low setting. To ensure that the meat is fully cooked, you should use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. The internal temperature of the turkey should reach 165°F (74°C).

It is important to note that cooking times may vary depending on the size of the turkey roast and the type of slow cooker you are using. It is always best to follow the manufacturer's instructions for your specific slow cooker.

When cooking a turkey roast in a slow cooker, it is important to use a recipe that is specifically designed for a slow cooker. This will ensure that the meat is cooked properly and that it stays moist and tender. There are many slow cooker turkey breast recipes available online that you can use as a guide.

Serving the Turkey Roast

Once your turkey roast is fully cooked in the slow cooker, it's time to serve it up! Here are a few tips for making the most of your meal.

Making the Gravy

If you're making the stuffing in the slow cooker as well, you won't have the 'juice' to make gravy. In that case, I recommend using store bought gravy, but, if you aren't making the stuffing at the same time, follow the steps below for a delicious gravy!

One of the best things about cooking a turkey roast in the slow cooker is that it creates its own delicious juice. To make the gravy, simply remove the turkey from the slow cooker and set it aside to rest. Then, pour the liquid from the slow cooker into a saucepan and bring it to a boil.

To thicken the gravy, mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons ofcold wateruntil smooth. Slowly pour the cornstarch mixture into the boiling liquid, whisking constantly, until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
